Local Footy Wrap – 20th April

The topsy-turvy start to local footy continued on Saturday, with two reigning premiers struggling early as new contenders emerge for 2026. Catch up on all the action here:

GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

Victor Harbor’s premiership defence is already teetering, after another heavy loss to start their Great Southern Footy League campaign.

After a 10-goal loss in Round 1, the Roos were beaten comfortably once again, this time at the hands of Langhorne Creek who won 16.5 101 to 7.9 51 to remain undefeated.

Elsewhere, McLaren Districts claimed a key contest against Myponga-Sellicks (16.10 106 to 14.8 92), Mount Compass battled inaccuracy but took the points against Yankalilla (11.19 85 to 11.7 73) and both Willunga and Encounter Bay won easily.

HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE (Division 1 results here, Country Division results here)

The new season of Division 1 in the Hills Footy League is looking very different, with new contenders surging past last year’s pacesetters.

Onkaparinga Valley backed up their upset win in the opening round, with Saturday’s 54-point win over Hahndorf (13.20 98 to 6.8 44) marking a terrific start to their season, while Mount Lofty cruised past Nairne Bremer (14.16 100 to 8.9 57) to hand the reigning premiers their second straight loss.

Other games from the round saw Lobethal’s dominant start continue with a 144-point belting of Mount Barker (26.15 177 to 4.3 27), while Blackwood won their first match of 2026 with a 30-point win over Uraidla Districts (16.6 102 to 11.6 72).

Over in the Country Division, Echunga and Meadows won close matches against fellow finals hopefuls, while Kersbrook and Macclesfield won comfortably.

RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

The Southern Mallee Suns have tallied an important early season win in the River Murray Football League, after storming home to beat Imperial (8.6 54 to 7.8 50) at Johnstone Park.

The Double Blues looked home with a 25-point lead at three quarter time, before the Suns kicked the last five of the game to claim a big Round Two win.

Other games from the round saw three blowouts with similar scorelines, as the Coorong Cats, Mannum and Rambler all took the points.
