Saturday’s action across our regions was filled with thrilling matches between finals contenders, which bodes well as a sign of great things to come as the pointy end of the season arrives. Catch up on all the action here:

GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

There were upsets galore on Saturday in the Great Southern Footy League, with three matches changing the run into the upcoming finals.

Third-placed McLaren Districts made a big statement, knocking off Victor Harbor at home by 9 points to take the Roos out of first on the ladder, leaving Willunga now as standalone leaders.

Two sides looking for the fifth finals spot also stumbled, with Myponga-Sellicks losing by 13 points to Langhorne Creek and Mount Compass losing by 22 against Strathalbyn, who have now won three of their last four after starting the season 0-9.

HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE (Division One results here, Country Division results here)

The two top-five clashes in Division One of the Hills Footy League lived up to the billing, with both being decided by less than a kick on Saturday. 

An inaccurate Uraidla Districts will rue their missed chances as they fell just one point short on the road against second-placed Nairne Bremer, while Lobethal stormed home with five goals to two in the last to beat Hahndorf by 4 points.

The other matches saw Mount Barker and Mount Lofty both tally wins against the bottom two sides.

In the Country Division, the second half of the split round was just as lopsided as the first, with Kangarilla winning by 68 against Gumeracha and Kersbrook beating Torrens Valley by 153.

RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

Two of the River Murray Footy League’s best put one heck of a potential grand final preview on Saturday, with the top of the table clash going down to the wire.

With top spot on the line, the Coorong Cats held on in a 4-point thriller over Jervois, with Sam Sanders, Daniel Menzel and Clinton Walker all kicking three goals each in the win.

Elsewhere, Mypolonga kept their narrow finals hopes alive while denting Mannum’s, after they won by 33 in a key fixture, while Southern Mallee and Imperial also tallied victories.
