Local Footy Wrap – 28th July

A wet and wild weekend of local footy furthered complicated the finals pictures across all four of our regions’ leagues. Catch up on all the action here:

HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE (Division One results here, Country Division results here)

Hahndorf has lost their first home match in nine years, with Nairne Bremer stealing a two-point win in torrid conditions as part of Division One action in the Hills Football League.

The Magpies’ decade of dominance at the German Arms Oval was ended after they failed to overcome a slow start, with the loss all but ruling them out of a top-two finish for the first time since 2015.

The wet conditions bogged down the rest of the round’s matches as well, highlighted by Uraidla Districts winning a key match against Lobethal where four goals were kicked in total.

Over in the Country Division, Echunga have dropped to fourth after a nine-point loss to Kangarilla, who themselves now sit in outright second with the win.

GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

Defending champions Myponga-Sellicks are in danger of missing the Great Southern finals completely, after Mount Compass drew level with them in fifth with a 26-point win on Saturday.

The Bulldogs held their nerve in a see-sawing clash with the Mudlarks to take the important win and make it a four-game sprint for the last finals spot. 

Elsewhere, the top four (Victor Harbor, Willunga, McLaren Districts and Encounter Bay) all claimed comfortable wins against the bottom four as they tune up for finals.

RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

Eighth-placed Rambler are still a chance at finals in the River Murray Footy League, after all the teams in the race for fifth above them fell on Saturday. 

The Roosters now sit only a game and percentage back of the last finals place after they beat Mypolonga by 16 points, while Tailem Bend and Mannum also stumbled to leave the chase wide open with four rounds left to play.

The other match showed the gap between first and last, with Coorong Cats beating Mallee Districts by 184 points.
