A major crime investigation is underway after a body was found in bushland at Inman Valley on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
The discovery was made by a member of the public about 5.30pm on Friday the 24th of April along the South Alma walking track, off Mount Alma Road.
Police, including Hills Fleurieu officers, crime scene investigators and Major Crime detectives, attended the scene, with further searches carried out over the weekend.
Initial investigations have confirmed the body had been at the location for some time, with the circumstances of the death currently unexplained. However, detectives are treating the case as a major crime and investigating the possibility the person was killed.
The remains will undergo forensic testing as police work to identify the victim and determine how long they had been in the area.
Investigators are also exploring a range of lines of inquiry, including potential links to long-term missing persons cases.
The walking track has been closed while forensic work continues at the scene.
