The local footy seasons are now finished, with Onkaparinga Valley, McLaren Districts and Jervois crowned the champions of their respective leagues. Catch up on all the action here:
HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full result here)
A premiership drought spanning generations is now broken, with Onkaparinga Valley winning their first A Grade flag in 32 years on Saturday after they belted Uraidla Districts in the Hills Footy League Division 1 grand final in Nairne.
The Doggies’ incredible season was confirmed with a seven-goal blitz in the premiership quarter, guiding them to an historic 55-point win (15.16 106 to 7.9 51) over the Cabbage Cutters.
Captain Will Spain won the best on ground medal.
Earlier in the day, Blackwood dominated proceedings by winning the Under 14’s, Under 18’s and Reserves in a strong sign of development.
RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full result here)
Jervois are once again the premiers of the River Murray Footy League, after they fought off a spirited Mannum to win by 16 points (10.12 72 to 8.8 56) in Saturday’s grand final in Meningie.
The Bluds and Roos were neck-and-neck at the final change before Jervois kicked the only two goals of the last quarter, holding on to win the club’s 21st premiership in their 100th season.
Jervois’ Chris Schmidt was named best on ground.
The club as a whole had great success in the earlier games as well, winning the reserves and Under 15’s.
GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full result here)
McLaren Districts have won their third A grade flag in five years in the Great Southern Footy League, after a dominant 39-point win (13.16 94 to 8.7 55) over Mount Compass in Saturday’s grand final in Encounter Bay.
The Eagles led from start to finish and rarely looked threatened as they won the premiership, capping off a one-loss season in emphatic style.
It bookended a historic day for the club, in which they claimed all four premierships from the Under 15’s, 17’s and reserves too.
It’s the first time in Great Southern Football League history that one club has claimed all four in one year.
