Concerns are mounting that the BeachSafe app isn’t accurately reflecting the ongoing risks from the algal bloom.
It follows anecdotes from those near beaches which are marked as clear on the app, who say the impacts are still being felt.
In recent weeks, metro Adelaide vets have treated dozens of dogs for breathing problems, while the Victor Harbor horse tram temporarily shut late last year over health concerns for horses, staff and visitors.
The status of each beach is updated daily, following checks at 8am for discoloured water, abnormal sea foam and whether it’s been cleaned.
Scientist Faith Coleman, who within the last 48 hours has raised personal concerns over government transparency with the algal bloom, says the public is being left in the dark.
“There’s also been some very clear messaging about it not being a problem, and I suspect that’s lulled many of us into a false sense of security,” she said via Seven.
