South Coast and Coorong seafood businesses hit by declining sales are set for a boost as the state government’s Dining Cashback scheme expands to include seafood retailers.

From today, South Australians can register for the first ballot draw, giving them a chance to claim up to $50 back on seafood purchases or meals at coastal hospitality venues.

The cashback can be redeemed at participating seafood retailers, cafes, pubs, and restaurants along the coast.

It follows a challenging few months for local seafood operators, who’ve reported a drop in demand following the River Murray algal bloom crisis. Meningie-based Coorong Wild Seafood reported it was selling less than a third of its usual catch in late August.

The first draw for 60,000 cashbacks will take place on Monday the 10th of November, with further draws to be held monthly through to March.

Winners will receive a unique code to claim their rebate after uploading their receipt and transaction details to the Dining Cashback website.

More than 265 South Australian businesses have already registered for the program, which is part of the Albanese and Malinauskas governments’ Summer Plan.
