A new free-to-play Marvel Games PC title, “Marvel Rivals,” will have a closed Alpha test in May with players able to take on the roles of eighteen iconic superhero and supervillain Marvel characters.

This is a cooperative, Super Hero team-based PVP shooter where players assemble an ever-evolving all-star squad of Super Heroes and Super Villains, while battling with unique super powers in destructible maps that you’ll recognise from the Marvel Multiverse.

Marvel Rivals is in development for PC by a NetEase team composed of global talent, who previously worked on hit franchises such as Call of Duty and Battlefield.

Marvel Rivals features a storyline crafted by the NetEase writing team where the merciless clash between the tyrannical dictator Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from the year 2099 has forced countless universes to collide in the Timestream Entanglement, creating new worlds and crises still unknown. Now, Super Heroes and Super Villains from across the multiverse must fight together and against one another as disparate groups seek to defeat both Dooms before one achieves domination of these realities. Familiar faces become newfound foes while former enemies become the greatest of allies in Marvel Rivals!

The initial roster of familiar faces include the likes of Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Groot, Hulk, Iron Man, Loki, Magneto, Mantis, Namor, Rocket Raccoon, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, Storm, Star-Lord, The Punisher and more with Marvel and NetEase said to have set a robust post-launch update schedule with seasonal drops that add new characters, maps and content.

Early reports and gameplay footage compare this to games like “Overwatch” and if that is the case this could be a game changer for Marvel Video Games which have been lackluster in the past. Things could be taking a turn with this release and the upcoming Captain America / Black Panther title 1943: Rise of Hydra.
