The Eastern women have claimed a historic three-peat in the SA Country Footy Championships, beating neighbouring zone Southern by 12 points in yesterday’s final at Barossa Park.
Bearing the pressure of chasing three in a row, the Eastern women went undefeated yet again, with a range of Hills Footy League stars standing tall.
Blackwood’s Mackensie O’Dea was named best on ground in the final, while Willunga star Emma Leask was one of Southern’s best.
The 22-player squad of the championships also featured nine players from the Hills and Great Southern leagues, with Willunga’s Kirsten Remfrey named captain.
The mens’ side of the championships was far less successful, with Eastern eventually beating Southern in the fifth vs sixth game on Saturday.
Both sides followed similar paths, by losing by two goals in their first games before going down by a couple of points in their second matches.
Jervois’ Lachlan Thomas was named best on the fifth vs sixth match, as Eastern won by 18 points.
Thomas was also named in the mens’ team of the championships, alongside Hahndorf’s Troy Parker-Boers and Mount Compass’ Klaus Simons.
