Gas Bottle Theft Attempt Sparks Police Investigation

A Murray Bridge man has been charged after police allege he tried to steal gas bottles from a local business overnight.

Police were called to Chris Collins Court about 10.30pm on Thursday after reports that two men were attempting to force their way into a shed containing gas bottles and cylinders.

Police allege one of the men fled before officers arrived.

A 64-year-old Murray Bridge man was arrested at the scene and charged with theft, unlawfully on premises and carrying an offensive weapon after police allegedly found a knife in his possession.

He was bailed to appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court on August 18.

Police say they are continuing to investigate and are following positive lines of enquiry to locate the second suspect.

Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity around businesses is urged to call the Police Assistance Line immediately on 131444.
