The long-awaited Goolwa Wharf restoration is expected to soon get underway.

Inflationary pressures on materials and labour costs have forced Alexandrina Council to revise the significant project which is now set to cost $17.4 million, including $1 million in potential contingencies.

Specialist timber has been secured and is ready for new decking to be installed in late October / early November.

The wharf’s PS Oscar W will be moved to Hector’s Jetty on October 20 so that works can get underway.

Originally servicing the Murrumbidgee River and Upper Murray trade, the vessel has
called Goolwa home since 1942.

The historic paddlesteamer’s 115th birthday will be celebrated this weekend with twilight cruises on Saturday 30 September and hour-long cruises on Sunday 1 October at 11am, 1pm and 2.30pm.

Alexandrina Council invites the public to join in the festivities.

For cruise bookings, contact the Goolwa Visitor Information Centre on 1300 466 592, or visit www.visitalexandrina.com.
