Highbury Bushfire Deemed Suspicious

Police are investigating a suspicious bushfire at Highbury.

About midday Monday 11 March, emergency services were called to reports of a scrub fire on Gorge Road.

Around 65 volunteer firefighters from the Country Fire Service, supported by MFS, Department of Environment crews and firebombers battled the blaze which burnt approximately 2.5 hectares.

They were able to bring it under control just after 2pm.

While there was no damage to any property, three volunteer firefighters suffered heat related injuries including one who required ambulance treatment.

The cause of the fire is currently undetermined; but police are treating it as suspicious.
