Independent Hills MP, Dan Cregan has called onto the State Government to include a dedicated palliative care hospice in the new Mount Barker Hospital.
“It is vitally important that Adelaide Hills residents are able to receive essential health services like
palliative care without being transferred to a metropolitan facility,” Dan Cregan said
The Member for Kavel has tabled a community petition in State Parliament with around 1,500 signatures, organised by Hahndorf resident Joan Chataway.
The petition calls for a dedicated hospice in the new hospital, alongside increased funding for more palliative care nurses and social workers in the Hills.
In a statement made to the Parliament, Mr Cregan drew attention to the limited number of palliative
care nurses in the Adelaide Hills region and highlighted the importance of residents being able to receive
services locally.
