Independent Member for Finniss Lou Nicholson is leading the charge for an inquiry into the Compass Springs situation, as Mount Compass residents continue to push back against a large rate increase.
The private water company wants to lift its current charge of $96 a quarter on around 200 homes to more than $700, prompting residents to call for alternative solutions.
Compass Springs says it’s been operating at a loss for a decade but its previous attempts to raise quarterly fees has been blocked by the Essential Services Commission, with its proposal to lift connection fees a result of its small customer base.
Almost 1000 names have been added to a petition for a parliamentary inquiry, now backed by Nicholson and Economic and Finance Committee Chair Olivia Savvas.
