A South Australian film production that shot in the Adelaide Hills earlier this year has just been released online and viewed more than 30,000 times since 15 August.
Behind the Seams is Australia’s first ‘slow fashion’ series, a fictional series of short stories, set in Nairne’s Little Ms Waste-Not Vintage store and at Somerton Park’s Unique One.
Main character India Scott, 50, (played by Eliza Lovell) runs a slow fashion shop and discovers mysteries within the beautiful pieces within her shop.
“The first mystery she uncovers is in the jacket of her recently deceased father,” Producer Victoria Morgan told ARN’s Adam Connelly and Jennie Lenman in a radio interview.
Scott is a member of the ‘sandwiched’ generation, caught between the needs of her ageing parents and the demands of her entitled teenagers.
The Imara Films and Screen Australia production was initially created by Victoria Morgan, with a teaser episode screenplay written by Morgan and Mandy Keulen.
“The important uptake of Slow-fashion and seeing beautiful ageing women on screen are both timely and important themes of our series,” Morgan said.
Sophie Rose from Little Ms Waste Not said during the filming process in March that it has been fabulous to be a part of the project.
“It’s going to allow people to not only see the space but also to experience a really well written and South Australian written, and crewed… production,” Sophie Rose said to Jennie Lenman and Adam Connelly in March 2023.
Both Rose and Morgan tell us they also like to promote sustainable fashion and its role in helping to reduce landfill.
SA Writer, Ruth Estelle wrote Series 1 (6 x 5min eps), Dr Tiffany Lyndall Knight Directed the first series and Richard Jasek was Executive Producer.
The team is looking to produce more Behind the Seams series in future.
