Thirteen of our local footy clubs will share in more than $615,000 in the first round of the new $2M SA Footy Facilities Fund.

The joint fund from the SANFL, AFL and State Government aims to help meet the significant investment needed to support the growth and diversity of football in South Australia, as it strives towards 70,000 playing participants in 2024.

The Onkaparinga Valley Football Club is the big winner from this week’s announcement with $150,000 for player and umpire changerooms and amenities, while lighting will be installed to the tune of $70,000 for the City of Onkaparinga.

Nairne Bremer and McLaren District clubs will each receive more than $75,000 for lighting while Bridgewater Callington will receive $31,322 for new turf.

To install new goal posts and backing nets, Victor Harbor Football Club will get $12,820 and Gumeracha’s footy club will receive $9,061.

Head of Infrastructure at the SANFL, Belinda Marsh said they want to keep this going long-term.

“We reckon we can do a really good job and really try and prove to our partners that we can keep these funds going on an ongoing basis because it’s certainly something that our clubs are really needing and we’re really wanting to turn the dial on facilities out in clubs,” Belinda Marsh told Chris Guscott on ARN Radio.
