A generous individual has donated $1 million towards Zoos SA’s ‘Help us Home Elephants’ project.
That significant donation gets the Monarto Safari Park goal very close to their $2.025M aim to bring three Asian Elephants to the region from overseas and interstate.
Chief Exective of Zoos SA Elaine Benstead has told ARN’s Adam Connelly and Jennie Lenman on radio this morning that she is thrilled that there is only around $100,000 left of the goal; an extraordinary feat in just under a month.
“Absolutely stoked, over the moon, just blown away by the generosity of really all of South Australia that’s got behind this campaign, but yes an amazing individual donation of one million dollars… we can almost smell the elephants they’re so close,” Elaine Benstead said.
The plan is to bring Asian Elephants from Auckland and Perth Zoos and create a 14 hectare habitat where they can enjoy ample space and opportunity to socialise, particularly pertinent to female elephants who form herds.
There is also a funrun on Saturday 21 October 2023 to help raise funds for the elephants, including a 3km division, 10km division, half marathon and marathon.
