Two young men from Mount Barker have been chared following an alleged assault on the Adelaide Oval footbridge after Saturday night’s Crows vs GWS Giants game.
Two victims were walking across the footbridge just before 10.30pm on Saturday 22 August when they were allegedly approached by two unknown men.
There was a verbal altercation before one of the victims was allegedly ‘coward’ punched. The 38-year-old man struck his head on the ground and was knocked unconscious. He was taken to hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. The other victim, a 37-year-old man, was also assaulted.
Witnesses alerted police and followed the suspects into the CBD, where they were seen entering a licensed venue on King William Street. The pair were reportedly seen swapping clothing inside the venue.
Police attended and arrested the suspects, both aged 21 and both from Mount Barker. One man was charged with assault and assault cause harm, while the other was charged with assist an offender.
They were both bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on the 4th of November.
