Local Footy Wrap – 6th July

There’s still plenty of movement left on the ladders of our local footy leagues, with Saturday’s play serving up plenty of top-four clashes and the occasional upset. Catch up on all the action here:

RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

Rambler has stunned their cross-town rivals Imperial on Saturday, as part of Round 11 action in the River Murray Footy League.

The Roosters entered as heavy underdogs but rose to the challenge, winning 8.16 64 to 4.7 31 to reclaim the Cawte-Norris Cup.

Elsewhere, Mypolonga won their first game of the season by beating fellow battlers Tailem Bend by 19 points (11.9 75 to 8.8 56), while the Coorong Cats and Jervois both picked up comfortable wins.

HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE (Division One results here, Country Division results here)

Hahndorf have separated themselves as the main challenger to Onkaparinga Valley, as part of Division One action in the Hills Footy League on Saturday.

The Maggies took care of business in their top-four clash with Lobethal, winning by 26 points at home (12.16 88 to 9.8 62) to move 3 points clear in second.

Their plight was helped by the first draw of the season, with Uraidla Districts drawing with Nairne Bremer at 9.6 60 apiece, while Onkaparinga Valley kept on winning with a 32-point win over Mt Lofty (14.11 95 to 9.9 63).

Over in the Country Division, Gumeracha stunned third-placed Kersbrook by 9 points (9.4 58 to 7.7 49), leaving Macclesfield and Kangarilla to cut adrift in the top two after they both won easily.

GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

McLaren Districts’ remain top of the pile in the Great Southern Footy League, after they beat Willunga by 18 points in Rivalry Round action on Saturday.

The top-of-the-table clash saw the Eagles lead from wire-to-wire, keeping them in outright first with six rounds left to play.

The Demons slipped to fourth with the loss, after Myponga-Sellicks saw off a strong Yankalilla challenge to win by 2 points and Mount Compass cruised past Goolwa/Pt Elliot.
